Our Story
Chef Andrew Barnes worked in Fine Dining Restaurants for Many years, earning 4 Diamond status, before deciding to open his own market stand in 2009. When his grandfather left him a small inheritance, the windfall gave Drew the capitol to live the dream. The Busy Bee is named for the ship Drew's grandfather served on in the Navy during WWII, the USS Biloxi. The ship was the only one in the fleet to earn two nicknames, The Double Lucky for never losing a man in combat and The Busy Bee because it fought more battles than any other ship. Just after The Busy Bee opened, Chef Drew asked his friend Andrea Linebaugh to go on a hike on a wednesday and she asked him out the following Saturday! Soon they began working together. The relationship grew right along with business. Today, we serve high quality breakfast and lunch options made with locally sourced meats and produce. Many of our ingredients are sourced inside the Market House. 99% of the items we sell are made in house, including the salad dressings, sauces, and some of the breads! In 2014, Drew did it again, opening a second market stand called The Fizzy Bee. Inspired by Queen Bee Andee's desire to make sodas, the pair bought an Old Fashioned Soda Fountain. The Fountain was made in 1936, had to be shipped from West Virginia, and no longer had any working parts! After a complete overhaul, Soda Jerk Drew started making soda. Our syrups are made with fruit, herbs, barks, roots and organic sugar without preservatives, colorants, and additives. |
